Most cars have a small metal tab on the brake pad backing that drags on the rotor when the pad is worn out. The sound is a high-pitched squeal at low speed, especially when braking lightly.
Ignore it and the pad wears through to the rotor, scoring it. A $200 pad job becomes a $500–$800 pad-and-rotor job.
If brakes fail entirely (pedal sinks, fluid leak), stop driving immediately. We tow flatbed at $249 / hour to your shop.
