Teslas need to be in 'tow mode' before loading. From the touchscreen: Controls → Service → Towing → enable Transport Mode. The car must have at least some battery for the screen to respond. If the battery is dead, the front trunk has a manual jump terminal.
Transport Mode releases the parking brake and prevents the motor from re-engaging on the deck. Without it, the wheels lock and dragging causes drivetrain damage.
